Whether you're looking to splurge and treat yourself or looking for a drugstore find, I have you covered.

Vampy shades like berry, plum, and maroon have always been popular choices for Fall and Winter, but this year, shades with grey or ash tones have gained momentum.

No matter what your skin tone, budget, style, or lipstick form preference, I have included all types of options here. In fact, I listed fifteen, and included mini formula reviews! I have included some transition colours as well. Go ahead and find your next favourite!

winter 2016 lip colours

Kylie Lip Kit in Love Bite (liquid, $29): This shade is really pretty. It's a dusty dark mauve with grey tones. When I purchased it, I hadn't seen many swatches, and thought this would be a lighter mauve, but I ended up liking the actual colour. The lip liner is creamy, and I found the formula of this particular shade to be very good. It dries down completely to a matte finish. This is perfect if you're looking for a grunge-y mauve! It will work well for medium to dark skin tones.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita (liquid, $20): This is one of my favourite shades of all time. Lolita is a pretty mauve-brown. It's very wearable and great for work or play. This shade appears a little darker on light skin tones, but is a perfect mauve-y neutral for medium to dark skin tones. The formula dries down to a powdery finish.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Spice Girl (liquid, $20): This is one of my new favourites. I was hoping Huda Kattan would have a lot of mauves and nudes for medium to dark skin in her line, but I was disappointed. However, I picked up Spice Girl on a whim because it looked like a good brown option and was available, and I am so glad I did! Spice Girl is a greyish mauve-brown. It will look grunge-y on light skin and beautifully neutral on medium to dark skin. On me, it's a light chocolate brown shade. The formula is comfortable and dries down fully.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Manhattan (liquid/cream, $19.90): This is a straight-up purple shade, but is very wearable. It sets slightly dusty. The formula is not transfer-proof and doesn't dry down fully, but does give a comfortable matte finish. I love this shade when I need colour but don't want to wear berry or mauve. This will look very pretty on any skin tone.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Hypno (liquid/cream, $19.90): This is a deeper, more vampy shade from OFRA's line. The resulting shade is a nice deep plummy mauve. It instantly makes me feel glamorous every time I wear it. This may be very vampy on pale skin tones, and even medium skin tones. Again, this transfers, so be careful because dark shades transferring pretty annoying.

Urban Decay Vice Comfort Matte in Tampered (classic tube, $17): While I don't really like the Comfort Matte formula, I do think this shade is really nice as a transition colour. The shade is a deep lilac mauve. A little difficult to describe, but makes for a nice 00's shade. I had a Lakme lipstick in this shade years ago, and this shade is a reminder of a favourite lipstick that once was!

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Hangry (liquid/cream, $20): If you like berry lips, you will love this! This is a reddish berry perfect for a sweet bold lip. This shade always makes me look and feel awake. The formula is creamy, doesn't dry down, has a minty scent and feel, and is comfortable to wear. If you love shades that are glamorous and sweet at the same time, you will love this!

TheBalm Meet Matte Hugh(es) in Charming (liquid, $17): This is a great transition shade which looks a little darker on pale skin tones. It's a nice pinky mauve and can be worn year-round. This is actually the most popular shade from the line. These do not dry down fully and have a minty taste and feel. Pair this with the Pickup Liner in Chemistry for a perfect lip!

TheBalm Meet Matte Hugh(es) in Trustworthy (liquid, $17): This shade looks very brown in the tube, almost like Kylie's Ginger, but is actually a nice wearable brown. This, too, is a great transition shade, and is so wearable you can wear it anywhere, year round.

Sleek Matte Me in Velvet Slipper (liquid, £4.99): From the new shades, this shade really caught my eye because it's mauve. I am a known hoarder of mauve lipsticks. This is a good drugstore option if you're looking to save money and still get great colour. It may take some work to get full coverage, though. This dries down fully and doesn't transfer. The colour may fade a little with time.

Colourpop Lippie Stix LBB (stick, $5): When looking for good, less pricey options, Colourpop really is our go-to. LBB is a nice matte berry shade. It's pretty comfortable to wear. My gripes with this are it bleeds pink and moves around/transfers. But if you're looking for something very affordable, this could work with a lip liner.

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Dare (classic tube, £4.99): Another option from Sleek is their True Colour lipstick in Dare. This is a nice deep brown-red, absolutely perfect for Fall. It's supposedly a matte lipstick, but I get a satin finish. This transfers, so again, if you opt for this, use a lip liner!

MAC Lipstick in Diva (classic tube, $17): You probably own this. If not, you've heard of it. MAC's Diva is one of the most stunning deep red shades ever created by the brand. This actually gives a matte finish and stays on. If you're looking for a classic lipstick in maroon, definitely get this! This looks especially stunning on deep skin tones.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Vamp It Up (classic tube, $2.29): If you want a really vampy, deep shade, and are on a budget, you should give Vamp It Up a try. Not only does it last forever on the lips, it actually looks pretty stunning! Application can be messy if you're not careful, though.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania (liquid/cream, $6): Looking for the perfect vampy dark plum shade? This might just be your new favourite! Transylvania is simply gorgeous. I've heard of users having issues with patchiness, but I didn't have that problem, so it's really a hit or miss. But I love the colour and love how soft this feels despite being such a dark shade! I love how this looks on my golden brown skin, and feel this shade would look stunning on brown skin tones.

Note that most of these shades will stain your lips fuchsia (even Kylie's lip liner) because they are deep shades.
